설문조사에 나타난 뉴질랜드인들의 ''국민의식'

National Identity of people living in New Zealand

Last year we conducted a survey on the subject of national identity. This involved establishing what affinity those who live here feel towards New Zealand and other countries; their pride in New Zealand and its achievements; and their opinions on a number of constitutional and other issues.

A nationally representative sample of n=1,252 New Zealanders, 18 years of age or over, was interviewed by telephone between 9 and 27 August 2011. The sample was weighted to ensure that total sample proportions by age and gender wasrepresentative of the New Zealand population as a whole. Maori were specifically over-sampled for this survey, so that we could compare the results for Maori with those of non-Maori, as well as other population groups.

The maximum sampling error, at the 95% confidence level, for the weighted sample, is ±3.2 percent.

Just over three-quarters of the sample (77 percent) said they were born in New Zealand, the others being born overseas in a diverse range of countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, the Pacific, Asia, the Americas, South Africa and various European countries. Forty-four percent of those who were born overseas had become naturalised since their arrival.

Research NZ에서 1,250명을 대상으로 ''국민의식'' 주제의 설문조사를 실시해 그 결과를 발표했습니다.

우선 국가에 대한 친밀감을 묻는 질문에, 응답자의 절반은 뉴질랜드에 강한 친밀감을 가지고 있다고 답했네요. 유사한 친밀감을 가진 지역/국가로는 영국(43%), 호주(21%), 아시아(13%)를 들었습니다.

뉴질랜드가 공화국이 되어야 하느냐는 질문에는 약 15%만이 ''그렇다''고 답해, 2009년 조사 때 뉴질랜드 공화국을 지지했던 42%에서 큰 하락을 나타냈고요..

국내외적으로 뉴질랜드의 개성을 과시할 수 있는 가장 좋은 방법을 택하는 문제에서는, "마오리어를 학교에서 필수과목화 하는 것"에 30%가 선택했습니다.

국민당 정부가 제안하고 있는 국유자산의 매각과 관련한 질문에서는 응답자의 절반 이상이 ''국유 자산을 부분적으로 혹은 전체적으로 팔지 않아야 한다''에 강한 동의를 나타냈고, 14%만이 매각에 전적으로 동의했습니다.

뉴질랜드의 어떠한 성취와 업적이 가장 자랑스러운가의 질문에는 럭비월드컵 우승의 영향 때문인지 국제 스포츠대회에서의 승리(41%)가 압도적으로 선택되었습니다. 또 뉴질랜드의 민주주의 원칙, 과학에서의 독창성도 소중히 여겨지는 성취로 언급되었고, 58년 전 Edmund Hillary경(사진)의 에베레스트산 세계 첫 등정도 여전히 많은 사람들이 국가적 보물로 자랑스럽게 생각했네요.
