2010년 5월 29일_코로만델 갔다왔어요.

오늘은 코로만델에 다녀오기로 합니다.

뉴질랜드에 오고 얼마되지 않아서 아내가 학교에서 프리젠테이션 과제로 코로만델 팜플릿을 만들었던적이 있습니다.

그때 코로만델에 대해서 여러가지 자료들을 보았기에 기회가 되면 한번 가보자고 했던 적이 있습니다.

로토루아 만큼 멀리는 아니지만 오랫만에 당일치기로 멀리 다녀왔습니다.

나들이가 급하게 결정되서 금요일 저녁에 인터넷으로 추가자료를 찾고,

일정을 뽑았습니다.

일정 계획은 이렇게 세웠으나 실제로는

'숲속의 기차'와 'Hot water beach'만 보고 왔습니다.

아침 8시에 출발해서, 코로만델 타운까지 가는데 2시간 30분이 소요되었기 때문입니다.

그리고...

예상은 했지만 Thames 까지는 평원에 난 길을 쭉 달리기만 하면 되었는데

템즈를 지나서 부터는 바닷가를 끼고 만들어진 좁은 길을 달렸고,

코로만델이 가까워지면서는 구비구비 산길을 오르느라 힘들었습니다.

운전에 서툰 사람이 코로만델에 다녀오기에는 상당히 어렵겠다는 느낌이 들었습니다.

템즈까지 가는 길은 대체로 이렇게 평탄하고 직선으로 뻗은 길입니다.

계획했던 시간보다 많이 지체되서 코로만델에 도착했습니다.

인포메이션 잠깐 들려 자료를 받고 준비해온 내용이 맞는지 확인 해봤습니다.

인포메이션에는 hot water beach를 즐길 수 있는 물때 시간을 알려주고 있었습니다.

담당자에게 비치까지 가는데 걸리는 시간을 물어보니 2시간이 걸린다고 했습니다.

11시 30분에 숲속기차를 타고 바로 hot water beach로 이동하기로 결정했습니다.

An Introduction to Driving Creek Railway & Potteries

your host barry brickell took 32years to build the 2.6km of tortuous narrow-gauge railway track, after acquiring his 22ha(60acre) block of hilly scrub-covered land in1973. he had arrived from auckland in 1961 to become. NZ's first Kiwi-born fulltime handcraft potter.

Building the railway from scratch required daunting task of surveying the route through very rough country. Trial surveys with slasher and a home-made instrument had to be reqeated until a suitably graded route could be found. Local contractors were used to do the major earthworks.

Some manor viaducts, 3 short tunnels, 2 spirals and 5 reversing points were required to elevate the railway up to the terminus at the Eyefull Tower, from which colossal views are obtained. Our drivers give you an informative commentary during the train ride a talk at the top.

At the potteries we have studios for resident and visiting potters but we are not a teaching institution. In the glass-blowing studio hot glass demonstrations are given when the furnace is working. We also make packaged mini bricks for "kids of all ages" as well as normal bricks for gardens and barbecues.

Our other major project is native forest restoration on the land. The train pssses close to kauri and other labelled native trees. We have also established a native wildlife sanctuary with vermin proof fence and sculpture garden. An illustrated booklet is available in our shop which describes these activities in more detail. An up-todate video and DVD are also available in the shop.

In our shop you can find innersting local pottery, glassware, souvenirs and woodcarving. Feel free to look around the potteries and sculpture garden and enjoy the short bush walk. Kindly respect our "no-go" natices but enjoy the information as shown. We also have a bookshop with emphasis on local ecology, history and children's books. We combine Art, Conservation and engineering. Our shop assistants will gladly help you.

숲속기차는 코로만델 타운에서 5분가량 북쪽으로 가면 찾을 수 있습니다.

표를 사고 기다리면서 사진을 찍었습니다.

표사는곳 안쪽에는 유리공예와 흙으로 만든 공예품들, 기념품들을 전시해 놓은 샵이 있습니다.

좁은 공간이지만 여러가지 볼꺼리를 많이 제공하고 있었습니다.

기차를 타는 플랫폼(?) 주변은 공예품들을 만드는 공방으로 보였습니다.
