레고로 만든 우주선, 우주를 날다

18살의 루마니아 소년과 오스트리아의 우주 매니아가 만나 레고 우주선을 우주로 날려보냈다.

미국 허핑턴 포스트는 8일(현지시간) 루마니아 소년 라울 오아이다와 오스트리아인 스티븐 샘마티노가 합작으로 레고우주선을 우주로 쏘아 올렸다고 보도했다.

두 사람은 독일의 바덴뷔르템베르크주의 라우다 쾨니히스호펜 시 인근의 들판에서 거대한 헬륨 풍선에 레고 우주선과 GPS, 카메라를 매달아 날려 보냈다. 이 레고우주선은 22마일을 날아올라 우주로 향했으며 6시간의 비행을 마치고 발사된 곳으로부터 150마일 떨어진 곳으로 귀환했다.

이들은 처음 '토이스토리'의 주인공 버즈라이트이어를 우주로 날려 보낼 생각였지만 그 무게가 만만치 않아 포기했다.

이 영상은 우주선과 함께 헬륨기구에 동승한 카메라가 찍어 레고우주선의 그럴싸한 우주비행을 전송했다.

The launch took place from central Germany (easy flight clearance) and reached a max altitude of 35000m. A 1600g meteo balloon filled with helium was used alongside a GoPro Hero, Spot GPS and of course Lego Space Shuttle model 3367.

We launched it on the 31st of December 2011, the equipment was recovered via GPS tracking 240 km S-E from a remote area.
